The bright f/1.5 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also enables greater control over depth of field for isolating subjects using selective focus. The optical design includes one double-sided aspherical element, which helps to deliver high sharpness and low distortion by suppressing a variety of aberrations. This lens also features a single coating, as opposed to a more common multi-layered coating, which offers a subtler image quality with slightly reduced contrast that is especially well-suited to black and white photography.
