Mirage V2026 Lab Edition Floating Licence

Mirage 5 supports Epson SureLab D700, D800, D1000(A) and SL-D500 printers and is available as a floating licence, allowing the software to be used across multiple computers, but only on one computer at a time. It requires an active account on the Mirage licence server and an internet connection to operate; additional workstation licences are required if you wish to run Mirage 5 on more than one computer simultaneously, providing flexibility for shared workflows while offering a great way to get a first taste of what Mirage 5 has to offer.

Print Templates

Mirage 5 includes a range of ready-to-use print templates designed to simplify image placement and layout creation. Templates contain numbered slots-square areas where images can be inserted, rotated, and positioned freely. Slots can overlap partially or fully and can be layered above or below one another as needed. Multiple slots can share the same number, allowing a single image to automatically populate several slots simultaneously, which is ideal for applications such as passport or ID photo printing. Templates can also incorporate masks-pixel or vector shapes that define which parts of an image will be visible when printed-providing additional design flexibility. Custom layouts can be saved and reused as templates for efficient, repeatable workflows.

Template Editor

The newly developed Template Editor in Mirage 5 enables users to design their own creative and time-saving print templates with ease. Built around Mirage's intuitive operating concept, the editor includes specialised tools for configuring template backgrounds, slot frames, image scaling, and masks. Users can choose solid colours or their own image files as backgrounds, adjust slot sizes and positioning, and define how images scale within slots-for example, proportional filling. Individual masks can also be applied to each slot to refine the visible image area. These tools make it simple to build customised templates tailored to specific production or design requirements.

Free Layout of Files on the Spread

Mirage 5 introduces the ability to move and arrange images freely across the print spread. Images can be positioned independently, overlapped, and layered to create unique layouts such as collages, creative compositions, or multi-image designs. This flexibility is particularly useful when working with multipage documents like photo albums or presentation layouts. Any layout created in this free-form environment can be converted into a reusable template with a single click, allowing users to save time and maintain consistency across future projects.

Clear Program Interface

The Mirage 5 interface has been redesigned for improved clarity and efficiency. The previous "Drop Files Here" window has been removed, allowing users to simply drag files directly into the Print Preview area of the main window. Functions are now better organised within the revised menu bar, grouping related tools and settings for faster navigation. The Mirage Job Archive has also been integrated directly into the interface, eliminating the need for a separate management application. Users can undo adjustments, remove all loaded files, or restart a project quickly using the "File → Start Over" command.

Improved Print Preview

Mirage 5 features an enhanced print preview that displays all pages side by side within a scrollable workspace. This layout provides a clearer overview of the entire print job, making it easier to review placement, alignment, and overall composition before printing. Navigation controls such as "<<", "<", ">", and ">>" allow users to move quickly between pages or jump directly to the beginning or end of the print layout. The improved preview ensures accurate visual feedback and helps prevent errors before sending jobs to the printer.

File & Templates Browser

The File & Templates Browser offers an organised and efficient way to manage images and templates within Mirage. Users can view uploaded files in adjustable preview sizes, quickly search through assets, and filter results based on criteria such as "already placed," "not placed," "portrait," or "landscape." Images and templates can be easily added to the printable area using drag-and-drop functionality. This streamlined browser improves workflow efficiency by providing quick access to all available assets in a single, well-structured panel.

Multiple Print Jobs at the Same Time

Mirage 5 allows users to create and manage multiple print jobs simultaneously. Each job can be prepared independently, enabling users to switch between projects without losing progress. New print jobs can be created directly from the menu bar using "File → New," while existing jobs can be paused, edited, deleted, or printed as needed. This flexibility makes it possible to temporarily pause complex layouts and quickly process urgent print tasks in the meantime, improving productivity in busy production environments.

"Undo/Redo" Function

The built-in Undo and Redo functionality allows users to reverse or reapply recent changes during layout creation and print setup. Whether adjusting settings in the print dialog or manually repositioning images on the layout, changes can be undone step by step using the "Edit" menu or standard keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+Z and Shift+Ctrl+Z. After sending a print job, the "Print" button automatically changes to "Print Again" if no further modifications are made, allowing users to quickly reproduce identical prints.

Improved Handling and Placement of Embedded Logos

Mirage 5 makes it easier to integrate logos into print layouts. Logos can be inserted into print files and then scaled, positioned, or adjusted directly within the page preview using simple mouse controls. When the cursor is placed over a logo, adjustment handles appear, allowing users to resize or reposition the element precisely. This intuitive control ensures that branding elements or graphic overlays can be placed accurately without requiring external editing software.

New Tools for Image Editing

Mirage 5 introduces additional image editing tools directly within the printing workflow. A new Gaussian Blur feature allows users to apply controlled blurring effects to images via the "Photo" tab, with a Pixel-Exact Preview available for accurate evaluation. The new Drop Shadow feature, found under the "Extra" tab, enables users to add shadows to images for visual depth. Shadow properties such as opacity, direction, softness, and offset can be adjusted using simple sliders, and the colour can be selected via a colour picker or pipette tool.

New Print Mode "Only Black Ink"

For selected printer models, Mirage 5 includes a dedicated "Only Black Ink" print mode. When enabled, the printer uses only black ink during the printing process instead of combining black and grey inks. This specialised mode is designed for certain printer and media combinations and can be particularly useful for specific monochrome printing requirements or workflows where pure black ink output is preferred.

Settings Option "Simulation"

Mirage 5 includes a built-in proofing feature called "Simulation," allowing experienced users to simulate how prints will appear on different printers. This functionality enables colour output to be previewed using alternative CMYK profiles available on the system. Located under the "Extra" tab, the Simulation setting is particularly useful for professionals who need to evaluate colour accuracy or prepare files for output on multiple printer types.

Additional Print Marks

Mirage 5 expands its print mark capabilities with additional options for crop marks and page-level markers. Users can move crop marks inward using the "Inset" setting to reduce the risk of white overlaps during trimming. A new "Page Print Marks" feature also allows marks to be applied around the entire spread rather than just individual images. This is useful when multiple images are placed on a single page, as the marks can be positioned precisely around the combined layout with adjustable spacing.

Support for Current Operating Systems

Mirage 5 is fully compatible with modern operating systems and software environments. It supports macOS 13 Ventura, Windows 11, and Adobe Creative Cloud 2023 applications. Installation requires at least Windows 10 or macOS High Sierra, ensuring broad compatibility with current professional systems.
