Mirage 17" Edition for Epson includes support for FineArt printers with a 17" (43.2 cm) print width, covering Epson Stylus Pro 3xxx and 4xxx series as well as Epson SureColour P8xx, P9xx and P5xxx models, and is offered as a floating licence, allowing Mirage 5 to be used across multiple computers, but only on one computer at a time. It requires an active account on the Mirage licence server and an internet connection to operate; additional workstation licences are needed if you wish to run the software on more than one computer simultaneously, providing flexibility for shared environments and a great way to get a first taste of what Mirage 5 has to offer.

Print Templates

Mirage 5 includes powerful print templates designed to simplify image layout and batch printing. Templates contain "slots", which are square areas where images can be inserted, rotated, and positioned freely. Slots can partially or fully overlap and can be arranged in different layers above or below each other for flexible layout creation. Each slot is automatically assigned a number, allowing images to be filled automatically through the template browser. Multiple slots can share the same number, meaning that dragging an image into one slot will automatically populate all matching slots-ideal for passport photos or application images. Mirage also supports masks, which are pixel or vector shapes that determine which parts of a slot will be printed, providing additional creative design possibilities. Custom layouts can easily be saved and reused as templates.

Template Editor

Mirage 5 features a dedicated Template Editor that allows users to create customised and time-saving print templates. Built around Mirage's intuitive workflow, the editor provides specialised tools designed specifically for template creation. Users can customise template backgrounds by selecting their own image files instead of using simple colour backgrounds. Slot Frame settings allow precise control over the size and placement of slots, while Slot Image Scale settings determine how images are scaled when inserted into a slot, such as proportional filling. The Slot Mask feature allows individual masks to be applied to each slot, enabling advanced control over how images appear in the final print layout.

Free Layout of Files on the Spread

Mirage 5 allows images to be freely arranged anywhere on the print spread. Files can be moved and positioned independently, and images can overlap to create layered designs, collages, or complex layouts. This flexibility is especially useful when designing multipage documents such as photo albums or creative print compositions. Once a layout has been created, it can be converted into a reusable template with a single click, allowing users to quickly recreate the same design in future print jobs.

Clear Program Interface

The Mirage 5 interface has been redesigned for improved clarity and usability. The previous "Drop Files Here" window has been removed, allowing users to simply drag files directly into the Print Preview area. The updated menu bar organises all features into logical groups, making tools easier to find and use. Mirage's Job Archive is now integrated directly into the main interface, removing the need for a separate application to manage past print jobs. Users can undo changes made during editing and use the "File → Start Over" option to quickly remove all files and copies from the print layout without closing the program.

Improved Print Preview

Mirage 5 offers an enhanced print preview that clearly displays all print pages side by side in a scrollable view. This layout allows users to easily review the entire print job before sending it to the printer. Navigation controls such as "<<", "<", ">", and ">>" make it simple to move between pages or jump directly to the beginning or end of the document, improving workflow efficiency when managing multi-page print projects.

File & Templates Browser

The File & Templates Browser provides an improved overview of uploaded images and available templates. Users can browse, search, and manage files with adjustable preview sizes, making it easier to organise large projects. A built-in filter function allows quick sorting of files by categories such as already placed, not placed, portrait orientation, or landscape orientation. Additional images or templates can be quickly added to the printable layout using simple drag-and-drop functionality.

Multiple Print Jobs at the Same Time

Mirage 5 allows users to create and manage multiple print jobs simultaneously. New jobs can be created using the "File → New" option in the menu bar while existing jobs remain available. Users can pause complex jobs during preparation, print other files in the meantime, or delete jobs that are no longer required. This improved flexibility helps streamline workflows, particularly in busy printing environments.

"Undo/Redo" Function

Mirage 5 includes a comprehensive Undo and Redo system that allows users to reverse or reapply changes made during editing. Adjustments such as repositioning images or modifying settings can be undone step by step using the Edit menu or standard keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+Z and Shift+Ctrl+Z. Once a job has been sent to the printer, the Print button automatically changes to "Print Again" if no further changes are made, allowing the same job to be reprinted quickly.

Improved Handling/Placement of Embedded Logos

Mirage makes it easy to integrate branding elements such as logos into print layouts. Users can insert logos directly into print files and then scale or reposition them freely within the print and page preview using the mouse. When the cursor is placed over an embedded logo, adjustment handles appear, allowing precise resizing and placement without needing external editing software.

New Tools for Image Editing

Mirage 5 introduces additional image editing tools within the print interface. The Photo tab now includes a Gaussian Blur feature that allows users to apply blur effects to images, while the Pixel-Exact Preview helps accurately assess the strength of the effect. The Extra tab introduces a Drop Shadow feature, allowing images to be printed with realistic shadows. Users can adjust shadow colour, opacity, direction, softness, and offset distance using intuitive slider controls to create more visually appealing prints.

New Print Mode "Only Black Ink"

Some compatible printers support a dedicated "Only Black Ink" print mode in Mirage 5. When enabled, this mode uses only black ink instead of combining black and grey inks. This option can be useful for certain monochrome printing applications where pure black ink output is preferred. Availability depends on the printer model and the selected paper and ink combination.

Settings Option "Simulation"

Mirage 5 includes a Simulation feature that allows users to preview how prints will appear when produced on different printers. Located in the Extra tab, this proofing function uses CMYK colour profiles available on the system to simulate output from other devices. This feature is particularly useful for professional workflows that require accurate colour matching across multiple printers.

Additional Print Marks

Mirage 5 expands print marking options for more precise finishing. In the Print Marks settings menu, crop marks can be moved inward using the Inset option to help prevent unwanted white edges during trimming. A new Page Print Marks feature allows marks to be applied around the entire spread rather than only individual images. For example, when multiple images are placed on a page, the marks can surround the entire layout with adjustable spacing based on user requirements.

Support for Current Operating Systems

Mirage 5 supports modern operating systems including macOS 13 Ventura, Windows 11, and Adobe Creative Cloud 2023 applications. Installation requires at least Windows 10 or macOS High Sierra. The software can also communicate directly with supported printers to retrieve stored custom media settings. During this process, Mirage queries the printer for media information, displaying the communication status through a spinning indicator that turns green when successful or red if an error occurs. Retrieved media profiles appear in the Settings menu under Custom Media with an "@Your Printer" suffix.
