Mirage V2026 17" Edition Epson Floating Licence
Mirage 17" Edition for Epson supports FineArt printers with a 17" (43.2 cm) print width, including Epson Stylus Pro 3xxx and 4xxx series, as well as Epson SureColour P8xx, P9xx and P5xxx models, and is available as a floating licence, allowing the software to be used across multiple computers, but only on one computer at a time. It requires an active account on the Mirage licence server and an internet connection to operate; additional workstation licences are required if you wish to run Mirage 5 on more than one computer simultaneously, providing flexibility for shared workflows while offering a great way to get a first taste of what Mirage 5 has to offer.
Print Templates
Mirage 5 includes flexible print templates designed specifically for filling with images. Templates contain "slots," which are square areas where images can be inserted, rotated, and positioned freely. Slots can overlap partially or completely and can be layered above or below one another to create complex layouts. Each slot is automatically assigned a number, allowing images to be filled automatically through the template browser. Multiple slots can share the same number, so inserting an image into one slot will automatically populate all slots with the same image-ideal for passport photos or application images. Templates also support masks, which are pixel or vector shapes that define which areas of the slot will be printed. Custom layouts can also be converted into reusable templates.
Template Editor
The dedicated Template Editor in Mirage 5 allows users to design their own efficient and creative print templates. Built around Mirage's intuitive workflow, the editor includes specialised functions for template creation. Users can customise template backgrounds by choosing their own image files rather than simple colours. Slot Frame settings allow precise adjustment of slot size and placement, while Slot Image Scale settings determine how inserted images are scaled, such as proportional filling. The Slot Mask feature enables individual masks to be applied to each slot, providing advanced control over layout design and print presentation.
Free Layout of Files on the Spread
Mirage 5 allows images to be freely arranged across the print spread without restrictions. Files can be moved and positioned independently, and images may overlap to create layered compositions or creative collages. This flexibility is particularly useful when designing multipage documents such as photo albums or presentation prints. Any layout created in this way can be converted into a reusable template with a single click, allowing users to quickly recreate complex designs in future print jobs.
Clear Program Interface
The Mirage 5 interface has been redesigned for clarity and efficiency. The previous "Drop Files Here" window has been removed, allowing users to simply drag files directly into the Print Preview area. The reorganised menu bar groups related functions logically, making them easier to locate and use. Mirage's Job Archive has also been integrated directly into the main interface, eliminating the need for a separate application to manage previous print jobs. Users can undo changes step by step, and the "File → Start Over" option quickly clears all loaded files and copies without closing the software.
Improved Print Preview
Mirage 5 features an enhanced print preview that displays all print pages side by side in a scrollable view. This clear layout allows users to review entire print jobs before sending them to the printer. Navigation controls such as "<<", "<", ">", and ">>" make it easy to move between pages or jump directly to the beginning or end of a multi-page job, helping ensure accurate layout and efficient review.
File & Templates Browser
The improved File & Templates Browser provides a clearer overview of loaded images and available templates. Users can browse, search, and manage files with adjustable preview sizes, making it easier to organise large projects. A built-in filter function allows images to be sorted based on criteria such as already placed, not placed, portrait orientation, or landscape orientation. Additional images or templates can be quickly added to the print layout using simple drag-and-drop functionality.
Multiple Print Jobs at the Same Time
Mirage 5 introduces the ability to create and manage multiple print jobs simultaneously. Users can start a new job through the "File → New" menu while keeping other jobs open and ready for printing. Jobs can be paused, modified, or deleted at any time, whether they are still being prepared or have already been printed. This flexibility allows users to pause a complex job, print another file quickly, and then return to the original task without interruption.
"Undo/Redo" Function
Mirage 5 includes a comprehensive Undo and Redo system that allows users to reverse or reapply changes made during the editing process. Adjustments such as repositioning images or modifying settings can be undone step by step using the Edit menu or standard keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+Z and Shift+Ctrl+Z. Once a job is printed, the Print button automatically changes to "Print Again" if no changes have been made, allowing quick reprints of the same job.
Improved Handling/Placement of Embedded Logos
Mirage simplifies the integration of logos into print layouts. Users can insert their own logos into print files and then freely move or resize them directly within the preview using the mouse. When the cursor is placed over a logo, adjustment handles appear, allowing precise scaling and positioning. This makes it easy to incorporate branding elements or identification marks into printed designs without needing external editing software.
New Tools for Image Editing
Mirage 5 introduces additional image editing tools directly within the printing interface. The Photo tab now includes a Gaussian Blur option that allows users to apply blur effects to images, with the Pixel-Exact Preview helping accurately assess the strength of the effect. A Drop Shadow tool in the Extra tab allows images to be printed with adjustable shadows. Users can control parameters such as colour, opacity, direction, softness, and distance between the shadow and image using intuitive slider controls.
New Print Mode "Only Black Ink"
Certain compatible printers support a dedicated "Only Black Ink" print mode in Mirage 5. When activated, this mode uses only black ink instead of a mixture of black and grey inks, which can be useful for specific monochrome printing requirements. The availability of this feature depends on the printer model and the selected paper and ink configuration.
Settings Option "Simulation"
The Simulation setting provides proofing capabilities by allowing users to preview how a print would appear when produced on another printer. Located in the Extra tab, this feature uses CMYK profiles available on the system to simulate colour output from different devices. This option is particularly valuable for professionals who require accurate colour matching across multiple printing environments.
Additional Print Marks
Mirage 5 expands print marking options for professional production workflows. Crop marks can be moved inward using the Inset option to prevent unwanted white edges during trimming. A new Page Print Marks feature allows marks to be applied around the entire spread instead of only individual images. When multiple images are placed on a page, these marks can be positioned around the full layout, with adjustable spacing between the marks and the images for precise finishing.
Support for Current Operating Systems
Mirage 5 is fully compatible with modern operating systems and creative software environments, including macOS 13 Ventura, Windows 11, and Adobe Creative Cloud 2023 applications. Installation requires at least Windows 10 or macOS High Sierra. The software also communicates directly with compatible printers, retrieving stored custom media settings and displaying them in the Custom Media menu with the "@Your Printer" suffix. Communication status is indicated by a spinning orange circle that turns green when successful or red if an error occurs.
