The Story

Mirage V2026 17" Edition Canon Single Seat Licence

Mirage 17" Edition for Canon supports FineArt printers with a 17" (43.2 cm) print width, including imagePROGRAF iPF5100 and PRO-1000 models, and is available as a single seat licence, allowing the use of Mirage 5 on one computer. It requires an active account on the Mirage licence server and an internet connection to operate; additional workstation licences are required if you wish to run the software on more than one computer at the same time, offering flexibility as your workflow grows while providing a great way to get a first taste of what Mirage 5 has to offer.

Print Templates

Mirage 5 includes powerful print templates designed to streamline image layout and printing workflows. Templates are built using "slots", which are square areas where images can be inserted, rotated, and positioned freely. Slots can overlap partially or fully and can be arranged in layers above or below one another. Each slot is automatically assigned a number, allowing images to be filled automatically from the template browser. Multiple slots can share the same number, meaning that inserting an image into one slot will automatically populate all slots with the same number - particularly useful for passport photos or application images. Templates also support masks, which are pixel or vector shapes that define which parts of a slot are printed, enabling creative image presentation. Users can also convert their own layouts into templates and save them for future use.

Template Editor

The built-in Template Editor allows users to create custom print templates tailored to their specific workflow. This dedicated tool includes functions designed specifically for template creation, making it easy to design creative and efficient layouts. Users can customise template backgrounds by selecting their own image files instead of simple colour backgrounds. Slot Frame settings allow precise editing of slot size and position, while Slot Image Scale options control how images fit within each slot, such as proportional scaling or full-frame filling. Additionally, Slot Mask settings allow users to assign unique masks to individual slots for advanced design control, enabling highly customised print templates.

Free Layout of Files on the Spread

Mirage 5 provides complete freedom when arranging images on the print spread. Images can be moved and positioned independently anywhere on the page, allowing them to overlap to create layered designs, collages, or creative layouts. This flexibility is particularly valuable when designing multipage documents such as photo albums or presentation prints. Once a layout has been created, it can be quickly converted into a reusable template with a single click, allowing users to save time when recreating similar designs in the future.

Clear Program Interface

The Mirage 5 interface has been redesigned for greater clarity and efficiency. The previous "Drop Files Here" window has been removed, and users can now simply drag files directly into the Print Preview area. The updated menu bar groups features logically, making tools easier to locate and use. The Mirage Job Archive has also been integrated into the main interface, eliminating the need for a separate program to manage previous print jobs. Users can undo changes step by step when adjusting layouts or settings, and the "File → Start Over" option allows all loaded files and copies to be cleared instantly without closing the software.

Improved Print Preview

Mirage 5 features an improved print preview that provides a clear view of all pages in a job. Print pages are displayed side by side in a scrollable view, making it easy to review layouts and confirm placement before printing. Navigation buttons such as "<<", "<", ">", and ">>" allow users to quickly move between pages or jump directly to the beginning or end of the job, ensuring efficient review of multi-page print projects.

File & Templates Browser

The File & Templates Browser offers an enhanced overview of loaded image files and available templates. Users can browse, search, and manage images directly within the interface while viewing previews at adjustable sizes. A built-in filter function enables quick sorting of files based on criteria such as placed images, unplaced images, portrait orientation, or landscape orientation. Additional images or templates can be added to the printable layout easily using drag-and-drop functionality, improving workflow efficiency.

Multiple Print Jobs at the Same Time

Mirage 5 introduces the ability to create and manage multiple print jobs simultaneously. Users can create new jobs using the "File → New" option and prepare them independently. Jobs can be paused, modified, or deleted at any stage, whether they are still in preparation or already printed. This feature allows users to temporarily pause a complex job and quickly print another file before returning to the original project, increasing workflow flexibility.

"Undo/Redo" Function

Mirage 5 includes a full Undo and Redo system that allows users to reverse changes made during editing. Adjustments such as repositioning images or modifying settings can be undone step by step using the Edit menu or standard keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+Z and Shift+Ctrl+Z. Once a print job has been sent to the printer, the Print button automatically changes to "Print Again" if no further changes have been made, allowing users to quickly reprint the same job.

Improved Handling/Placement of Embedded Logos

Mirage simplifies the process of integrating logos into printed layouts. Users can insert logos directly into print files and then move or scale them freely within the print preview using the mouse. When the cursor is placed over an embedded logo, adjustment handles appear, allowing precise repositioning and resizing. This makes it easy to incorporate branding or identification elements into printed images without requiring additional editing software.

New Tools for Image Editing

Mirage 5 adds new image editing tools directly within the printing interface. A Gaussian Blur function is available in the Photo tab, allowing users to apply blur effects to images while using the Pixel-Exact Preview to accurately assess the strength of the effect. The Extra tab introduces a Drop Shadow feature, enabling images to be printed with realistic shadows. Users can adjust shadow colour, opacity, direction, softness, and offset distance using slider controls, providing greater creative flexibility for print layouts.

New Print Mode "Only Black Ink"

Some compatible printers offer a dedicated "Only Black Ink" printing mode in Mirage 5. When enabled, this mode uses only black ink for printing rather than a combination of black and grey inks. This option can be useful for certain monochrome printing applications where pure black ink output is preferred. Availability depends on the printer model and the selected paper and ink configuration.

Settings Option "Simulation"

The Simulation feature allows users to preview how prints will appear when produced on different printers. Located in the Extra tab, this proofing function uses available CMYK profiles on the system to simulate colour output from other devices. This is particularly useful for professional workflows that require accurate colour matching across different printers and printing environments.

Additional Print Marks

Mirage 5 expands print marking options to support professional production workflows. In the Print Marks settings menu, crop marks can be moved inward using the Inset option to help prevent unwanted white edges. The new Page Print Marks feature allows marks to be applied to the entire spread instead of only individual images. For example, when multiple images are placed on a page, page marks can be positioned around the entire layout, with adjustable spacing between the marks and the images.

Support for Current Operating Systems

Mirage 5 supports modern operating systems and creative software environments, including macOS 13 Ventura, Windows 11, and Adobe Creative Cloud 2023 applications. Installation requires at least Windows 10 or macOS High Sierra. This ensures reliable compatibility with current hardware and professional software workflows while providing a stable and efficient printing environment.
